GURGAON: As the Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH) gears up to evaluate the answer sheets of class 10 and 12 students, teachers have raised objections over the remuneration and demanded that they be paid on a par with evaluators of other boards such as CBSE.
The teachers have claimed that even after pushing for the policy change for years now, the board has failed to fulfill their repeated requests. On Friday, the board announced that in this session, the payment for marking papers has been increased by around 15%. The hiked amount in real terms, however, has meant a raise of Rs 2 per copy.
“We have been pressing for better remuneration and the board did not pay heed to it for six years. Last year, the former chairman of BSEH had promised the hike. But when it was announced during the meeting on Friday, it meant as good as nothing. When the BSEH is mimicking every little aspect of CBSE under the guise of overhauling education and examination curriculum in the state, it should adopt a similar approach towards remuneration for checking the papers,” Satpal Sindhu, president, Haryana School Lecturers Association (HSLA) said.
In the recent round of hikesannounced by the board, the remuneration for marking copies of class 10 students has been increased from Rs 12 to Rs 14 per copy. Similarly, for class 12, it has been increased from Rs 14 to Rs 16. In addition, teachers are given travel and food allowance of Rs 20 and Rs 25 per day respectively.
In comparison, teachers in CBSE boards are paid Rs 25 per copy and Rs 30 per copy for classes 10 and 12 respectively. The allowance for travel and food in CBSE stands at Rs 250 and Rs 750 respectively.
Besides expressing resentment over payments, Teachers have also complained that there’s no streamlined mechanism for the timely payment of dues.
“At times, teachers don’t get the dues until the next session commences. For instance, the remuneration for the paper checking wasn’t cleared until a few days ago,” said Satyanarayan Yadav, the state vice-president of Haryana Vidyalaya Adhyapak Sangh.
The board, on its part, has maintained that it has given due consideration to the teachers’ demands and raised the remuneration amount in accordance with the financial feasibility.
